I was tasked with designing the visual identity for Buzz Studios, a theatre collective committed to making classic plays accessible, especially to students, through bold, contemporary reinterpretations. Named after pioneering director Buzz Goodbody, the company wanted a brand that felt both rooted in theatre history and unafraid to challenge conventions. The brief called for something visually arresting yet minimal, with references to vintage aesthetics and reinvention.
The visual identity for Buzz Studios is rooted in the company’s mission: making classic plays feel bold, accessible and relevant, especially for younger audiences. Inspired by Buzz Goodbody and the iconic tin hut where she staged radical theatre at the RSC, the logo reimagines that space as a minimal, graphic symbol of defiance, creativity and reinvention.
The colour palette moves away from their current black and yellow, embracing warmer, unexpected tones: rust red, ochre, olive, and lavender that nod to vintage posters and theatrical warmth, while still feeling contemporary.
Typography pairs a clean, modern sans-serif with a more traditional serif, echoing the company’s blend of old and new.
